Welcome to Stephen Shoop Music Publications

Notice: Stephen Shoop Music Publications will be closed from June 1-September 1, 2012 in order to revamp and modernize. Those who have been contemplating placing an order are encouraged to do so in May, unless it can wait until fall. See my other website- www.stephenshoop.com- for updates. Exciting things are being planned for fall. Stay tuned!

Stephen Shoop Music Publications was organized in 2004. Currently, primary areas of specialty include pedagogical materials for tuba and euphonium- especially at the intermediate level, historical pieces and related items for low brass instruments, and a growing number of small to medium ensemble works. We are continually adding new products and product lines. Our newest product lines are compact discs and vintage LP recordings! Please contact me if you would like an electronic copy of my latest catalog and price list.

On Octuba 20, 2010, one of the greatest tuba players the world has ever known, Harvey Phillips (1929-2010) passed away in Bloomington, Indiana. Mr. Phillips was a great personal mentor and guiding force in the establishment of this publishing business. Stephen Shoop Music Publications is organizing an effort to commission a tuba solo in his honor and memory. We envision a suite for solo tuba with piano and/or band accompaniment-- of moderate length and difficulty level-- depicting various performance genres Mr. Phillips was involved with during his long and distinguished career. More specific details about the project will be announced in the near future. Please check back soon and often for updated information about how interested parties might contribute to the project.

Two of my most recent product additions are tuba solos with piano accompaniment. Both solos happen to be by British composers. (1) ‘Neath the North Crack’d Polar Cap is by Anthony Wakefield. An MP3 recording and first page of the score is available on the Sibelius website. See detailed information about the piece under "New" or "Tuba Solos." (2) Another tuba solo (also playable on euphonium)- Tuba Train, by Tony Matthews, is a challenging six movement suite.

My most recently published ensemble work is Swipesy Cakewalk, a brass sextet featuring the tuba. This arrangement is by Montana trombonist/arranger/band leader Don Lawrence. The piece was written to feature his brother-- Paul Lawrence-- "a tubist extraordinaire." In addition... "hot-off-the-press" are four additional brass sextet arrangements by Mr. Lawrence. They include (1) Lily Queen Rag, (2) Pizzicato Polka, (3) Turkish March, and (4) March (Mozart). Please check back soon and often. I will be publishing many more of Don's brass sextets in the near future.

Another recent ensemble edition is “Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme,” by J.S. Bach, arranged by Charles D. Ashley. The piece is taken from the fourth movement of “Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme” (Sleeper’s Awake, the voice commands), BWV 140, arranged for low brass trio (trombone, euphonium, and tuba).

Highland Melody (Shoop and Brazier), an original tuba solo with piano accompaniment has just been placed on the the Texas Prescribed Music List (PML)! It is listed as a Class II Tuba Solo.

I am currently accepting pieces for publication! I invite those with manuscripts and/or other ideas to contact me! I am also available for clinic-workshops, masterclasses, and summer band camps. Please let me know how I might be of service! You might also want to visit my personal website- http://stephenshoop.com. Included on the site is information about my publishing activities, including upcoming projects, and also errata for currently-published works.
